25 000 Tuques! November 25, 2015 – Posted in: Miscellaneous

As many of you know, Canada will be accepting 25 000 Syrian Refugees within the next few months and thousands will settle here in Montreal and throughout Quebec. Danielle Létourneau, a Quebec Actor and Director was inspired to launch a campaign to knit hats to not only warm the heads of our new arrivals but to warm their hearts! Danielle was inspired by the welcoming gesture of placing a hat on a newborn right after birth and hopes to let our Syrian brothers and sisters know that we welcome them and care for their well being. The act of making something by hand and giving it to someone, for Danielle, is a gesture that symbolizes that you are part of our family.

Though the knitting of 25 000 hats is ambitious, Danielle says that, however many hats are collected, it will be a beautiful concrete action. Espace Tricot would like to help make this project a success and we invite you to knit a hat and attach a little handmade tag with washing instructions, fibre content and a note of welcome. Hats can be dropped off at the store, or if you are participating at a distance please send us a little care package!

We also invite you to join us during our Knit Nights every Thursday evening from 18h30 ? 21h00 to knit your hat in community!
