Pattern and yarn help
We’re always ready in-store to get you started with your project. Bring along your pattern with the gauge and yarn details and we’ll have suggestions for substitutions if we don’t have the exact yarn. We’ll help calculate yardage, get you set up with needles, and make sure you have everything you need to cast on with confidence!
A lot of customers ask us for help finding a pattern. In general, we’re going to direct you to a few options:
- We have printed copies of our own designs (also available on Ravelry and free in-store with purchase)
- We have loads of samples in store for you to browse, and can find the patterns for you on Ravelry, either free or paid
- If you don’t find anything that inspires you, we’ll direct you to Ravelry as that is the primary source for finding individual pattern downloads. If it isn’t too busy in store, we can set you up with our iPad to browse a Ravelry search. In general it’s more reliable for you to take your time browsing at home and bring us what you find. If you’re having trouble, email us with as much detail as possible about what you’re looking for, and we’ll hunt down some options for you!
- We have a few books and magazines but in general these are from specialty publishers
- Our local libraries, the NDG library and the Benny library, have a selection of pattern books that can be a great resource, especially for baby and children’s items
Knitting help
If you have a question about your project, feel free to bring it in and we’ll see what we can do. Kindly note, we may be too busy in store to help fully, so you may want to consider a private session or a class to make sure you get the right solution, and that you can understand and learn from the fix to improve your future knitting!
- Drop in to the store: If we can perform a quick fix we’ll do so, depending on how busy we are. Weekends during the fall and winter are regularly too busy for us to give your project the attention it deserves. Insider tip: in general we’ve found that Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 5-7pm, are usually less busy.
- Examples of what we usually can help you with in-store include: a dropped or wonky stitch, a confusing line in your pattern, confirming your gauge, etc.
- Private help sessions: Book a half hour with an expert instructor $20 and get dedicated one-on-one help with your project. If we can’t help you on the spot in-store, we’ll suggest this option to you!
- Ideal for pattern walkthroughs, skill demonstrations, and more involved fixes
- Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, either 5-5:30pm or 5:30-6pm
- Must be booked at least 24 hours in advance, subject to availability
- Must bring cash
- Classes: if you would like more general skill-building workshops that will help improve the rest of your knitting long-term, consider a class! Make sure you’re signed up to our newsletter to receive all the updates about new classes.
Open Stitch Nights: Thursdays 7pm-9pm
Formerly known as Knit Night, our Thursday night sessions are of course open to all soft crafts, from knitting and crochet to embroidery and more! While this is not a dedicated help session, it is a great chance to chat about your project with likeminded folk, and we all like to help each other out. If you’re looking for general pattern and project inspiration, or want to work on your project around other knitters who may have some handy tips and tricks, come on by and join us!
