Merino wool is not only insulating, but also wicks moisture away from the body and retains heat even when moist, thanks to the structure of the fibers. Wool can absorb up to 30% of its own weight in water before it starts to feel wet. This merino does not come from sheep that have been subjected to mulesing.
While the manufacturer indicates that Double Sunday can go in the washing machine, Sandnes Garn recommends that all wool garments be washed separately on a wool program or delicate cycle with low spin, to ensure the gentlest treatment. Never use a laundry bag when washing hand-knitted wool garments. This creates friction that can cause the garment to felt.
